Dendrocalamus giganteus is a tropical and subtropical bamboo species that is native to Southeast Asia, including India, China, Laos, and Myanmar. It is one of the largest bamboo species in the world, and is the second tallest. The culms of the giant bamboo can grow to be 20–30 meters tall and 20–30 centimeters in diameter. 
 
Giant bamboo is used for many purposes, including:
Construction, Boat masts, Bamboo houses, Water pipes, Furniture, and Paper production. 
 
The young shoots of the giant bamboo can be eaten as a vegetable, and the culm sheaths can be used to make hats.
