Gerbera Daisies: Plant Care & Growing Guide
The gerbera is a member of the composite family and is native to South Africa, Asia, South America, and Tasmania. The genus was named after Traugott Gerber, a German botanist and doctor, and the species name jamesonii comes from Robert Jameson, who collected specimens in 1884.
Gerbera daisies are popular for home gardening and commercial use. They are low-growing plants with satin-like petals that surround a distinct center. The blooms can be up to four or five inches across. Gerbera daisies can be used in beds, borders, pots, and rock gardens. Cut gerbera blooms can stay fresh for a reasonable amount of time when placed in water.
