Origin
The lychee is native to southern China, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years. 
Fruit
The lychee fruit is red, globose to ovoid in shape, and has a thin, inedible skin that turns from green to red or pink-red as it ripens. The edible portion of the fruit is an aril that surrounds a dark brown seed. 
Tree
The lychee tree is evergreen and can grow to be 6–12 meters tall. It has grey-black bark, brownish-red branches, and leaves that are 10–25 centimeters or longer. 
Uses
The lychee fruit is usually eaten fresh, but it can also be canned or dried. The seeds are used in folk medicine to treat gastrointestinal diseases. 
Cultivation
In India, lychee is the seventh largest fruit crop by area and the ninth largest by production. The Shahi variety is the most popular in the North Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, and Uttar Pradesh regions.
