Strychnos nux-vomica is a medium-sized, deciduous tree that is native to India and southeast Asia. It has thin, smooth, yellowish-grey bark and ovate leaves that are 2–3.5 inches in size. The tree's flowers are small, greenish-white, and funnel-shaped, and the fruit is about the size of a large apple. 
Strychnos nux-vomica contains strychnine and brucine, and has been used in traditional medicine to treat diabetes, asthma, and improve appetite. However, it is also a well-known poisonous herb and can cause severe symptoms, including:

Twitching of the muscles
Stiffness of the neck
Convulsions
